Artist Information

With over 600 concerts and didactic shows all over Veracruz, presentations in the most important concert rooms in national and international level, Duo Coincidencia has transcended Mexican borders receiving acclaim in the most important concert venues in countries like Cuba, Chile, United States, Venezuela, Poland, Turkey, Argentina and Spain. Comprising the Cuban-Mexican guitar player Martha Eugenia Salado and Mexican guitarist Carlos Muñiz Díaz.

Martha Eugenia Salado Mondeja was born in Cuba, 1973. She studied guitar player at in the National Vocational School of Arts “Olga Alonso” and further in National Arts School in Havana reaching the grade of Guitar Professor, Instrumentalist and Practice Sets Teacher. She won First Place in National Concourse “Amadeo Roldán” and an honorary mention for the Best Interpretation of Cuban Music.

She has taken classes with outstanding teachers like Leo Brouwer, Rey Guerra, Joaquín Clerch, Rolando Moreno, David Russel, Álvaro Pierre and Eduardo Fernández.

As part of Guitar Assemble of Havana she made two recordings, toured and participated in over 15 radio and television programs on Cuban Television. In 1998 she received a scholarship to participate in the university course “Music in Compostela”, in Spain. In that same year she co-founded “Duo Coincidencia” with Master Carlos Muñiz Díaz. Since 2004 she has been working as a professor at the Higher Music Institute in Veracruz.

Carlos Muñiz Díaz was born in Mexico. His education included attending the Musical Conservatorium of the State of Mexico to study guitar. Subsequently he studied at University of the State of Mexico and obtained his PhD at the University of Veracruz (his Doctoral thesis was on “Music and rights”). He has taken courses with Manuel Barrueco, Leo Brouwer, Oscar Giglia, Álvaro Pierri, David Russel, Juan Carlos Laguna, Gonzalo Salazar and Antonio López.

Thanks to triumphing in the National Guitar Concourse (convened by Laud Players Club of Paracho, Michoacán, and by the University of Rhode Island), he obtained a scholarship to study at the said institute. He supplemented his education with courses in Spain and France, at the Chigiana Academy in Siena, Italia and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Carlos has undertaken concert tours in Poland, Turkey, Chile, United States and Mexico.

Composer Information

Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963) was a world-renowned pianist and composer, born in Cuba (his father was Canarian his mother was from Cuba) . He wrote over 600 pieces - Lecuona's talent for composition has influenced the Latin American world in a way quite similar to George Gershwin in the United States, in his case raising Cuban music to classical status.

Eduardo Martin (b1956) has written for guitar in various combinations from duos to guitar orchestra. He has written for theatre plays and for cinema. Since 1991 he has successfully toured Cuba, South America and Europe giving concerts and master classes with great acclaim from both critics and the public in general. He is a regular adjudicator on international competitions and a guitar professor at ISA, (Instituto Superior de Arte) Havana. His works have been published in Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Canada & USA.

Walfrido Dominguez (b1954) received classical guitar training at the Instituto Superior de Arte in La Habana, where he graduated in 1982. From the beginning, Walfrido’s career as a performer, arranger and composer focused on genres and rhythms of Cuban popular music, for which he is intimately familiar. He is the author of several songs and compositions for solo guitar and instrumental ensembles. He also composed music for theatre and movies. As an interpreter, Walfrido has been part of different chamber ensembles. He integrated “Guitarra 4” (with Rey Guerra, Carlos Alberto Lloró and Eduardo Martín) and subsequently “Duo Confluencia”, with guitarist Eduardo Martin, with whom he toured Cuba, Uruguay, Argentina, Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.

Rubén Fuentes (b1926) is a Mexican classical violinist and composer, who is best known for his contributions to mariachi music thereby elevating this traditional music to international heights and acclaim. He wrote dozens of Mexican standards, of which La Bikina is one of the best known. Fuentes also produced several of Linda Ronstadt's traditional Latin albums. Rubén Fuentes was also the musical director & producer of RCA Records in Mexico during the late 1950s to the late 1960s.

Agustín Lara (1897-1970) was a Mexican composer and interpreter of songs and boleros. He is recognized as one of the most popular songwriters of his era. His work was widely appreciated not only in Mexico but also in Central and South America, the Caribbean and Spain. After his death, he has also been recognized in the United States, Italy and Japan.

Argentinian Jorge Cardoso (b1949) is a classical guitarist, composer, researcher, medical doctor (National University of Cordoba, Argentina) and teacher (Madrid Royal Conservatory). He has performed in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, and has frequently participated in international festivals, conferences, seminars, radio and television. Cardoso has composed over 400 works: solo guitar, duets (two guitars, guitar and violin, claves, viola, cello and flute), three and four guitars, string quartet, guitar and stringed, guitar and wind, concerts for guitar and orchestra, for guitar orchestra and symphony orchestra, string orchestra, and voice.

Roberto Medrano is a Mexican born guitarist, composer and arranger.

Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) is one of the most important Spanish composers of the 20th Century. He spent is later years living in Argentina after the Spanish Civil War. La Vide Breve is an opera written in 1904/5 – and the piece featured on this recording is Interlude & Dance from Act 2, arranged for guitar duo.
