Artist Biography

Formed in 1985 the Bristol Brass Consort is a symphonic brass ensemble that provides high quality performances of the established brass repertoire as well as lesser known works and new commissions.

The group is structured with a brass quintet as its core ensemble and can expand to 10 piece and larger formations depending on the repertoire.

Quintet

In this formation they mix the best of the original brass quintet repertoire with commissions and their own arrangements to treat audiences to a unique brand of entertainment which captivates all ages. The ensemble has a lively repartee, touched with humour and personality, to bridge the ocean of classical formality to delight audiences in an evening of great music mixed with fun.

10 Piece

As a 10-piece ensemble they again perform across a wide selection of musical periods and styles. Arrangements of Bach and Purcell up to The Beatles form the backbone of these concerts, which are provided in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

Larger Ensemble (20+)

This is their largest formation and is normally put together every couple of years to perform specific compositions and arrangements for this sized group. These have included Pictures at an Exhibition; Symphonic Dances from West Side Story; Fanfare for the Common Man; Funeral March by Grieg; Festmusik der Stadt Wein; Street Song by Michael Tilson-Thomas.
