MSV28523 Songs and Chamber Music by composer David Dubery

As a further release in our exploration of lyrical English Chamber Music (following MSV28520 – Music by Veale and Crawford and MSV 28522 Pipings and Bowings – Music by Hurd Milford and Blackford)  here we have a disc featuring some lovely pieces composed by David Dubery. Being largely self-taught he works in a traditional language preferring miniature to medium sized projects. His music is tonal, rooted in past traditions, and working with dancers and actors has ensured rhythm and movement play an integral part in its composition.

Musicians featured include Adrienne Murray (mezzo-soprano), John Turner (recorders), Paul Janes (piano), Craig Ogden (guitar), Peter Dixon (cello), Richard Simpson (oboe), Graham Salvage (bassoon), and Richard Williamson (viola).

DDA25100 Russian Piano Music Volume 8 – Modest Mussorgsky

Continuing our series exploring Russian Piano Music, Volume 8 focuses on Modest Mussorgsky. Here Anthony Goldstone presents a fascinating insight into Mussorgsky’s piano music – and as usual features a number of first recordings. The full version of ‘Pictures’ as recorded here is the original manuscript version  and not the more common later revision which is considered by many to be less effective overall.

DDA25030 J.S. Bach 4 Klavierkonzerte

In conjunction with the Scottish Baroque Soloists, pianist Peter Seivewright offers a highly accomplished recording of these masterpieces. In an extremely readable essay in the CD booklet, Seivewright invites the reader to question the views of some musicologists regarding the origins of these pieces.

Recording News from Divine Art Records – Paul Mealor/Con Anima Chamber Choir

Divine Art Records are pleased to be able to announce that The Con Anima Chamber Choir, conducted by Paul Mealor, will be releasing “Madrigali – Fire and Roses” in November 2011.

The recording features Paul Mealor’s Composition “Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal” – a short choral cycle of four linked madrigals on texts connected by their reference to roses, either directly or as a metaphor for love – one of these was featured in the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and has become a firm favourite on Classic fM. In addition the CD will present Morten Lauridsen’s “Madrigali: Six ‘Fire Songs’ on Italian Renaissance Songs” as well as other pieces by Monteverdi, Gesualdo, Scotto, Ruffo, Schaffen, Holst, MacMillan and others.

Full press details will be sent out in September 2011.

DDA25101 “Delicias” – Spanish Delights for Piano DuoDDA25101 “Delicias” – Spanish Delights for Piano Duo

It is interesting that of the nine composers featured in this recital four had no Spanish roots. The “exotic” nature of Spanish music – especially that of Andalusia in the south with its Moorish history and Gypsy culture – has irresistibly drawn non-Spanish composers. This disc, like the majority of recordings from Goldstone & Clemmow features numerous pieces which are new to the repertoire.

DDV24155 Piano Music of Erik Chisholm Volume 7

DDV24155 Piano Music of Erik Chisholm Volume 7

This is the seventh and final volume in the series of Chisholm’s solo piano music from Murray McLachlan. The first four volumes (DDV24131-4) formed the basis of a recent feature on BBC Radio Scotland studying the piano music of Erik Chisholm, and narrated by Murray McLachlan. These performances have been hailed by one critic as one of the musical discoveries and revelations of the Twenty-First century. Volume 5 (DDV24140) was released in 2009 and Volume 6 (DDV 24149) in 2010.
